New York(July 31, 2017): It was a three way battle between the good, the rad and the very ugly this weekend, as reigning champion Dunkirk faced opposition from new arrivals Atomic Blonde and The Emoji Movie.
Despite a close battle between Christopher Nolan’s latest and the animated adventure, Dunkirk took it, earning $28.1 million in its second weekend according to studio estimates.
That pushed the intense war film over the $100 million mark in the US, and it has already earned more than $234 million worldwide.
It had the benefit of healthy reviews, as opposed to The Emoji Movie, which arrived in cinemas with a terrible 8% score on critical aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
