Pakistan Slip to Seventh Slot in ICC Test Rankings

Dubai(October 11, 2017): Pakistan have slipped to seventh in the latest Test rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC), following their humiliating 0-2 series defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The rejuvenated Sri Lankan team, led by Dinesh Chandimal, not only beat Pakistan by 68 runs in the second Test on the fifth and final day in Dubai but also managed to climb above their opponents to reach the number six position.

Pakistan, chasing 317 to win, were bowled out for 248 in their second innings with Dilruwan Perera finishing with 5-98.

Resuming at 198-5 Pakistan lost Sarfraz Ahmed for 65 while Asad Shafiq scored 112 for his 11th Test century.

However, Sri Lanka won the first Test by 21 runs in Abu Dhabi.

As a result of their memorable 2-0 series victory in UAE, Sri Lanka have gained four rating points to move to sixth in the Test rankings.

On the other hand, Pakistan lost five rating points to plummet to the seventh position.

The two teams will now play a five ODI series followed by three Twenty20 internationals, the last of which is scheduled for Lahore on October 29.
