4th death anniversary of Qazi Hussain Ahmed being observed today

ISLAMABAD: The fourth death anniversary of former Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Qazi Hussain Ahmed is being observed today in the country.

Ahmed, who remained in JI’s Ameer from October 7 1987 to March 29 2009, was a champion of Muslim Ummah’s unity and strieved hard for forging unity among Muslim across the globe.

He also contributed greatly for elimination of sectarianism in the country and creating sectarian harmony.

Born in 9148 in Ziarat Kaka village of Nowshehra, Qazi received his early education from his hometown.  He did his graduation from Islamia College Peshawar. He received his Master degree in Geography from Peshawar University.

After completion of education, Qazi started his practical life as lecturer of Geography.

During his student life, he was an active member of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT), the student wing of JI, and struggled for students’ right on its platform.

He ventured into practical politics in 1970 and choose Jamaat-e-Islami for that. He was elected JI’s General Secretary in 1978 and was elected Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami in 1987.

Subsequently,  he was elected JI Ameer for four times by the Arkaan of the party.

During his political career, he remained member of Senate of Pakistan twice and in 2002 he was elected as MNA from two National Assembly’s seats.

During his long political carrier, Qazi spearheaded many anti-government movements and was imprisoned on several occasions by the sitting governments for his anti-govt stance.

Qazi Hussain Ahmed’s valuable contributions came from the platforms of Milli Yakjehti Council and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amaal (MMA). He struggled for promotion of sectarian harmony, ending difference between different schools of thoughts and uniting the nation.

Islamic movements across the globe considered him as their elder and patron and held him in high esteem. He died four years ago on January 6.

The JI is observing his death anniversary by arranging seminars, conference and references to remember his contribution and services for the country and Muslim Ummah.
