Assets Beyond Means: AC Resumes Hearing, Dar Present

Islamabad (October 12, 2017): The Accountability Court has resumed hearing the case pertaining to reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) over the accumulation of beyond-the-means assets by federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar who is present in the court along with his lawyers.

The Judge of the Court Muhammad Bashir has called two prosecution witnesses Shahid Aziz and Tariq to record their statement today.

Stringent security arrangements are being made in and around the Accountability Court for today’s hearing. Around 200 policemen have been stationed in and around the judicial complex to provide security for today’s hearing, while all routes except one entry point have been sealed off to prevent the unauthorised entry of any uninvited persons.Meanwhile, federal Minister for Privatisation Daniyal Aziz and State IT Minister Anusha Rehman have also reached the court to attend the hearing.

The accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir had summoned Ishaq Dar today in the NAB reference. It is pertinent to mention here that the court had indicted Ishaq Dar on the last hearing on the 4th of this month  in the reference filed on the instructions of Supreme Court in Panamagate verdict. The court had also recorded statement of a prosecution witness on the last hearing.NAB had produced two witnesses Ishtiaq Ali of Bank Alfalah and senior vice-president of Al Baraka bank Tariq Javed before the court on the last hearing but only the former’s statement was recorded by the court due to lack of time while the statement of the later would be put off for yesterday.
