Torture on female passengers at Islamabad Airport: Norwegean family refuse to visit FIA headquarters

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan-origin Norwegian family subjected to torture at Islamabad International Airport by a lady constable of FIA refused to join inquiry and visit the Agency headquarters.

After a video of Islamabad Airport where a female constable is seen beating two women passengers went viral, the FIA suspended the constable in centre of the controversy.

The FIA, in a notification issued here, said it was suspending LC Ghazala Shaheen with immediate effect and ordered her to report to FIA Zonal Office Islamabad.

The video showed the constable in question holding the two women by their hair and pushing them, while staff at the airport watched as bystanders. An FIA inspector could be seen witnessing the incident while another female constable could also be seen nearby.

The FIR filed by FIA earlier did not mention anything about the beating of passengers, though the incident took place in front of everyone. The scuffle reportedly broke out over the issue of ‘missing toilet papers’ at the airport.

Sources said that Additional Director FIA Pervez Umrani deployed at Benazri Bhutto International Airport concealed the facts in his report. They said that the officials involved in torture on Norwegian citizen Unmer’s wife and daughters.

They added that the report of the incident, which was sent to Interior Ministry, was contrary to the facts, which was exposed by the video.

The victim family says that they did not expect justice so would not be going to FIA headquarters to record statement.
