Blast Near Shiite Mosque in Kabul, 4 Dead

Kabul (September 29, 2017): A suicide bombing has been reported from the Afghan capital Kabul, leaving at least four dead and 20 wounded. A spokesperson for the Interior Ministry confirmed the blast.

The blast hit the Qala-e Fatehullah area of the city, near the Hussainya mosque, and occurred as security forces were on alert for possible attacks during Ashura, the holiest celebration in the Shi’ite religious calendar.The bomber blew himself up on the street about 1,000 meters from the Hussainia Mosque just after Friday prayers as worshipers were on their way home.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place two days before the Muslim holy day of Ashura.
