Islamabad (July 27, 2017): Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday took suo motu notice of rape of 16-year old girl in Multan on Panchayat order.
The CJP took notice of the heinous incident on media report.

While taking suo motu notice, the CJP directed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab to submit a report of the incident to the court.
It is to be mentioned here that members of a Panchayat (village council) ordered the rape of a 16-year-old girl as punishment for a rape allegedly committed by her brother.
According to local police, a man had complained to the Panchayat that his 12-year-old sister was raped by his cousin. The Panchayat then ordered the complainant to rape the 16-year-old sister of the accused in revenge.
Police, upon hearing of the incident, arrested 10 members of the panchayat, including its leader.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has already taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the Multan capital city police officer (CCPO).
The chief minister directed that justice should be provided to the affected family.
