Disappearing people is neither govt’s policy nor it will be tolerated: Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday told Senate that disappearing people was neither the policy of the government nor it would be tolerated.

Senate session was held here with Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani in the chair.

Giving policy statement on missing person issue, the minister said that safe recovery of Prof Salman Hiader would be ensured. He added that three of those recently went missing were from Punjab while one was from Islamabad.

He added that camera record was checked which revealed that a car was chasing them in Islamabad.

Minister for Interior Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan said safe recovery of the missing social activists was the priority of the government.

Briefing the House regarding the four missing social activists Waqas Goraya, Asim Saeed, Saleem Haider and Ahmad Raza Nasi, the said Prof Salman Haider was abducted from Islamabad Capital Territory while the other three activists went missing from Punjab.

He said Punjab Government was also pursuing this matter on priority basis. He said the government agencies are monitoring this issue and it will take the investigations to its logical conclusion.

Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan said number of people have been recovered in the last three and a half years due to government’s sincere efforts. Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan said political point scoring should be avoided in nation’s resolve against terrorism.

He said backbone of terrorists has been broken as a result of joint efforts by all the stakeholders, including political parties and security agencies. He said military operations alone are not sufficient in establishing internal security. He said the menace of terrorism could only be dealt with unity and determination.

Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan said now the entire world is acknowledging Pakistan’s successful efforts in elimination of terrorism. He called for political unity instead of creating confusion to fight terrorism and extremism.

Opposition parties expressing their dissatisfaction walked out of the Senate in protest. Aitzaz Ahsan said that the Interior Minister only gave lecture on missing persons. He added that the credit of drop in terrorism incidents went to military leadership which launched operation Zarb-e-Azb.

Senator Taj Hiader and Tahir Hussain Mashhadi also protested over the statement of the minister.
