Just 8 men own as much wealth as half of world’s population

Eight richest men of the world own half of the world’s wealth. In other words these eight super rich men owns as much wealth as half or 3.6 billion of the world population has, charity organization Oxfam has revealed.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates with net worth of $75 billion, who is the richest men of the world along with seven others- Spaniard founder of fashion house Inditex Amancio Ortega ($67B), financier Warren Buffett ($60.8B), Mexican business tycoon Carlos Slim Helu ($50B), Jeff Bezos of Amazon ($ 45.2B), Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg ($44.6B), Oracle’s Larry Ellison ($43.6B) and former mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg ($40B)- are the billionaires who hold half of world’s wealth.

Just how quickly the gulf between the rich and poor is widening is obvious from the fact that last year 62 super rich owned as much wealth as half of the world’s population.

Oxfam suggest a number of measures to help reduce the rich-poor gulf. These include higher taxes on both wealth and income, funding investments in public services and jobs, increased international cooperation between governments to ensure workers are paid decently, and ensuring that rich pay the due taxes.
