ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has summoned Chairman NAB personally on Monday in case regarding illegal appointments in National Accountability Bureau.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Ameer Hani Muslim heard the case regarding illegal appointments in NAB. Establishment Division submitted report in the court. Secretary Establishment Tahir Shahbaz told the court that he reviewed appointments from 2002 till date, during which he inspected 1700 cases with irregularities found from NAB record.
NAB’s lawyer Khawaja Haris told the Supreme Court over irregularity case that a committee has been formed which will take action after reviewing the matter. We didn’t make decision due to court order, as the court stated to decide itself. Justice Ameer Hani Muslim remarked that sadly the committee which was formed was itself comprised of incompetent officers. How can a junior officer will compile a report against grade 21 officer. There are nine such officers who didn’t even qualify for educational standards The one whose academic qualification is incomplete, how can he got promotions and who gave job to such people who has no basic experience. If competent people would have been hired in NAB then the institution could not be in such situation.
Justice Ameer Hani said that incompetent people were promoted to senior positions, adding that even NAB would have fired a clerk, then the court would have said that NAB did something. He said that he is not concerned how much people will be affected with the court verdict.
Justice Qazi Faiz Essa said that NAB’s report is just a pile of papers. If NAB cannot make report then how it is handling corruption cases. NAB is not capable to understand the matters. NAB is the institution which clutches others for corruption, but if NAB is corrupt then how can it clutch others. The court summoned Chairman NAB to appear personally and adjourned the hearing until Monday.
