Image of Russian envoy’s murder wins World Press Photo award

An image of the assassination of Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov has won the World Press Photo award 2017.

The jury described the photo as ‘an explosive image.’ According to the details, Associated Press photographer Burhan Qzbilici took the picture on December 19, 2016 when Mevlut Mert Altintas, an off-duty police officer had killed the ambassador.

World Press Photo jury member Mary Calvert said that it was an explosive image that really spoke to the hatred of their times.

The Russian ambassador Andrei Karlov had been invited to give a speech at an exhibition in Turkish capital.
