LAHORE: Senior leader of Pakistan Peoples Party Jehangir Badar has passed away at the age of 72 after suffering cardiac arrest here last night.

He was rushed to a hospital but did not survive the heart attack. Jehangir Badar was also suffering from kidney ailments.

Jehangir Badar got elected as a member National Assembly from Lahore in 1988.

He funeral prayer will be offered at 4 pm today at University Law ground. He will be laid to rest at Miani Saheb graveyard here.

Badar entered students politics in 1960s. He was elected president of college union from the platform of PSF. Later he did PhD in political science from Punjab University.

Jehangir Badar was among the leaders who got flogged during the dictatorial era. He was considered a close confidant of Benazir Bhutto and served as federal minister twice during PPP rule. He also served as the Leader of House in the Senate.

During his political career he also penned down many books. He started his political life with PPP and remained with it till his death.

He was the only politician of Pakistan who underwent sufferings during the rule of four dictators.
