Judiciary can’t allow anyone to violate constitution: CJP

KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar on Saturday said that like other institutions Pakistan’s judiciary was also facing threats.

Addressing the 25th anniversary of SAARC Law, the chief justice said that  judiciary can not allow anyone to violate the constitution.

He added that he had faith in the principles of freedom and justice. “Everyone litigant has the right to have justice. Justice should not be done but it should have seem to be done,” he remarked.  He added that the judiciary was bound to adjudicate cases without any fear and favor. He added that the constitution had vested powers to judiciary to restrain executive from overstepping its constitutional limits while the judiciary was to guarantee fundamental rights of the citizens.

He added that it was the basic responsibility of judiciary to dispense quick and inexpensive justice and ensure that the cases must not be delayed unnecessarily.

The CJP said that the world had turned into a global village and there was a need to use modern technology for dispensation of justice.

The 25th anniversary of SAARC law was attended by CJP Justice Saqib Nisar, Chief Justice Sri Lank, judges of Supreme Court, high court, lawyers and others.
