The death anniversary of one of the staunchest supporter of the separate country for the Muslims of undivided India Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar is being observed with fond memories and affection today.
A firebrand political leader, journalist, poet was slapped with four-year jail sentence from 1911-1915 for violating the then Defense of India Rules by British colonists who ruled Indo-Pak subcontinent back then.
Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar launched his extremely popular English weekly Comrade in 1911 from Calcutta and later his Urdu weekly Hamdard from Delhi in 1913.
He died in London on January 4, 1931 and was buried in Jerusalem as he willed.
