Pakistan Rejects Indian Statement Over Spy Jadhav

Islamabad (July 2, 2017): Pakistan has rejected Indian statement over giving consular access to convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav. Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria has said that the spy’s case could not be linked to civil prisoners because Kulbushan Jhadav is an serving officer of Indian Navy and an agent of Indian covert agency RAW.

Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria says Pakistan has ensured effective implementation of the bilateral consular agreement with India.

Indian attempt to equate Commander Jhadav’s case with civilian prisoners and fishermen is a travesty of logic, Nafees Zakaria added.

In a statement issued from here earlier today the Foreign Office spokesman said that Pakistan remains committed to the implementation of the 2008 Agreement on Consular access with India.

He further informed that Pakistan repatriated last month five Indian nationals who had completed their sentences while 20 Pakistani civilian prisoners who have completed their sentences still awaiting getting repatriated by India. In addition, consular access to 107 Pakistani fishermen and 85 civilian Pakistani prisoners is also pending.

The statement further said Indian humanitarian claims appear contrary to reality in view of the impossible conditionalities imposed for medical visas for Pakistani patients.

Pakistan has implemented the bilateral consular agreement in letter and spirit and expects India to reciprocate through action rather than rhetoric, the statement added.
