PIA Suspends 14 Workers Over Narcotics Smuggling

Peshawar (August 17, 2017): National flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines has suspended 14 workers at Peshawar Airport over allegations that they facilitated smugglers send narcotics overseas aboard airlines flights.

Sources also informed that 15 PIA workers had been arrested over charges related to smuggling of charges overseas. The departmental action against the suspended PIA workers would continue, sources added.

It may be mentioned here that on May 23 this year Anti-Narcotic Force (ANF) had arrested 19 PIA employees over alleged involvement in heroin smuggling on the flights.

The arrests came in the wake of the recovery of 20 kilograms of narcotics from a PIA plane in London a few days earlier that in turn recovery of 20 kilograms of heroin from a London-bound PIA flight at Islamabad Airport.Exactly one month later, that is  on June 23, the ANF arrested several suspects affiliated with notorious gang involved in heroin smuggling aboard PIA flights.

Addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi Director General ANF Mussarat Nawaz told the media that arrested suspects were involved in heroin, which was recovered from PIA flight at Heathrow Airport London.

During the one and half month investigation fourteen accused arrested from Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi,” he added.
