PM Announces 10-year Uplift Package for Balochsitan

Quetta (November 14, 2017): The Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has announced on Tuesday the long awaited 10 years development program including mega schemes of schools, energy, gas and water.

Talking to media in Quetta, PM Abbasi said that government wanted to accelerate development process on long term basis in Balochistan, therefore a 10-year uplift package has been announced.

“The schemes of gas, power and water are includes in the package while an LNG plant will also be constructed in all districts of the province. Federal government and provincial governments will provide the funds equally,” he said.

Replying to a question, he quashed ongoing rumours regarding the possibility of early elections in the country and said that present government will complete its term in June 2018 and next election will be held two months after the completion of the term.

“This is how democracy works,” he said, “Government runs as per the Constitution and the law should always be above everything else.”

Earlier, PM Abbasi arrived in Quetta on a day long visit and later chaired high level meeting regarding the law and order situation in the province.

Chief minister Balochistan Sanaullah Zahri, Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai, commander southern command lieutenant General Asim Bajwa and other high ups were attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Zehri said the law and order situation has improved in the province, adding that the back of the terrorists has been broken.

The meeting also discussed in detail the security measures for Shia pilgrims.

The prime minister had to once again reiterate that the government would complete its tenure after calls for early elections have increased in recent days.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan reiterated his demand for early elections.

While speaking to the media in Chitral, where he addressed a rally a day earlier, the PTI chief said that given the present circumstances in the country, there was no way out besides early elections.

He added that only “a fool” would term the step to be against democracy.
