SHC Cancels Interim Bail of “Dead Suspect”

Karachi (November 15, 2017): Expressing anger at defense counsels for keeping it misinformed cancelled the interim bail of a “dead suspect”.

A Divisional Bench of SHC headed by Chief Justice Ahmad Ali Shaikh cancelled the interim bail of Niaz Ahmad Sehto, one of the 20 suspects in mega corruption case in 46 projects for reinforcing the banks of Rohri Canal.

During today’s hearing Chief Justice SHC remarked that the court was informed that the said suspect had died and now the court is being told that he is alive. Expressing anger the conduct of the lawyers the court said that it trusted the lawyers but that trust has now been shattered after being informed that the suspect is alive.Expressing anger at the officers of the Irrigation Department the court said that they seem involved in corruption in every single of the 46 projects. Have you ever worked honestly somewhere, the court asked the suspects.

When the court asked the Investigation Officer how much the projects were worth he informed the court that that the projects were over Rs 1 billion. The enquiry is underway and so far a corruption of Rs 60 million has been unearthed, he added.Directing the Investigation Officer to complete the inquiry within six weeks the court adjourned the hearing of the case till December 31.

It may be mentioned here that the court was hearing the application for extension in interim bail by 20 suspects including former Executive Engineer of Irrigation Department Ayyaz Soomro and Supreintendant Rafiq Ahmad Deerar.
