Shehbaz Behind ‘History’s Worst Massacre’ in Model Town: Qadri

Lahore (September 21, 2017): Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Tahir-ul-Qadri reaffirmed that Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif was behind the worst massacre in history in Model Town that occurred on June 17, 2017.

In a press conference on Thursday, he lauded the valour of Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi for making Model Town JIT report public, adding that names of suspects in the report – including those of Sharif family – should be put on Exit Control List (ECL). Qadri called it the victory of justice and claimed that his party never talked ill about the judiciary.

Talking further about the case, he said not a single suspect could be held accountable in more than three years. “Nawaz Sharif is speaking the language of enemies. He was disqualified for one reason and he reacted by starting a battle against judiciary,” he added.

“No one took notice of the fourteen bodies after massacre. The Sharifs have started provoking people despite not facing any such damage yet.”

Tahir-ul-Qadri claimed that not 14 but 27 people were martyred in the Model Town incident while a number of suspects were made to flee the country to escape justice.

Meanwhile, Punjab government has decided to file an intra-court appeal against LHC verdict to public the judicial inquiry report of Model Town incident. The verdict reserved two days back was announced by Justice Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi. LHC also accepted the petition filed by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) .

Model Town incident

14 killed and as many as 90 were reported injured in the clashes between policemen and PAT workers in Model Town during 2014. Police had opened fire at the workers and assaulted them physically with sticks which killed 14, including two women.

The row lasted for 11 hours while the operation was started to wipe out the hurdles positioned outside Tahir-ul-Qadri s residence.

PAT had accused the Punjab government and PML-N senior leadership in the massacre. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and Principal Secretary Dr Tauqeer Shah were made to resign from their positions.

On June 19, Justice Baqir Najfi headed the judicial commission to probe the incident which found Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif and other government officials as suspects.
