Kabul (June 26, 2017): At least ten police officers were killed late Sunday in an attack by Taliban militants in western Herat province of Afghanistan.
Another officer was injured in the attack that targeted the Salma Dam in the Chisti Sharif district, according to Herat governorate spokesman Farhad Jailani who said four fighters were also killed.
The attack occurred just prior to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s Eid al-Fitr address in which he urged the Taliban to come for peace talks.
The Taliban is yet to comment on the attack.
