The trailer for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the eighth episode in the saga, was released.
Opening with a short of Daisy Ridley’s Rey placing a hand on to a rocky outcrop, the new teaser strikes a fairly somber tone, suggesting that the forthcoming episode may be darker in tone than 2015’s
The film, which follows directly on from JJ Abrams’s previous instalment, continues the story of Rey, runaway stormtrooper turned good guy Finn (John Boyega) and dashing resistance pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).
Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker, who appeared only at the very end of Episode VII, will play a more pivotal role in this second instalment, and has a prominent part in the new trailer.
It also ends with a chilling voiceover from the actor, as his hidden, shrouded figure intones: “I only know one thing…it’s time for the Jedi to end”.
