NUSHKI: In a deadly attack on an anti-polio team in the city of Nushki, a police officer has been martyred.
According to the police sources, unidentified assailants opened fire in the area of Khalil Muhammad Hasni in Nushki, resulting in the martyrdom of Constable Waheed.
The body of the martyred officer has been shifted to the hospital, while other members of the polio team remained safe.
A spokesperson for the Balochistan government stated that the martyred officer, Waheed, belonged to Jamal Abad, Nushki. The government paid tribute to the sacrifice, saying they salute the officer who laid down his life in the line of duty.
Chief Minister of Balochistan, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, and other officials strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing that the polio campaign is a national duty. They described the attack as unacceptable, calling it a sabotage attempt against the nation. They also announced that efforts to intensify security for polio teams will be undertaken to ensure their safety.
CONDEMNATIONS
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the incident in the strongest terms.
The Prime Minister called the attack intolerable, expressed condolences to the martyr’s family, and assured that no efforts will be spared to secure the future of children and to take strict action against miscreants.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also expressed grief over the incident, paying tribute to the martyred officer, Abdul Wahiid. He stated that the officer has achieved a great rank and that the government stands with the grieving family. He further asserted that those who attack efforts to secure children’s future will be dealt with firmly and decisively.
