DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least 11 people were killed and 30 others injured when a bomb blast targeted a police checkpost in Aman Mela near Darazinda on Saturday, according to Rescue 1122 officials.
Rescue officials said the deceased included eight men, two women and a two-year-old child. Emergency teams remained engaged in rescue operations at the scene, retrieving victims from the debris.
Police said the explosion occurred at the Aman Mela checkpost near Mughal Kot and Darazinda along the Dera Ismail Khan-Quetta Road, close to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Balochistan border.
A bomb disposal unit was also dispatched to the site to ascertain the nature of the blast and determine how the explosion occurred.
Sources said six police personnel and two customs officials were among those martyred, while two women and a two-year-old child also lost their lives.
Rescue 1122 said 20 injured people had received initial medical treatment so far. Of them, 18 were shifted to medical facilities in Darazinda and Mufti Mahmood Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan for further treatment.
