RAWALPINDI: Security forces thwarted a cowardly terrorist attack in the Cantt area of Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killed 16 attackers. During intense clashes, five brave soldiers martyred.
According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), on March 4, terrorist elements attempted a cowardly attack on Bannu Cantt. The terrorists tried to breach the security of the cantonment, but Pakistan’s vigilant and brave security forces thwarted their nefarious intentions through immediate and decisive action.
Spokesman for the Pakistan Army stated that the attackers rammed two explosive-laden vehicles into the security wall. The army personnel displayed exceptional courage and professional skill, targeting the attackers and eliminating 16 terrorists, including 4 suicide bombers.
ISPR stated , in this intense clash, 5 brave soldiers sacrificed their lives for the motherland. Due to the suicide bombings, a portion of the security wall collapsed, causing damage to adjacent buildings.
The statement mentioned that unfortunately a mosque and a residential building were also destroyed, resulting in the martyrdom of 13 innocent civilians and injuries to 32 others.
According to the ISPR, investigations by intelligence agencies have clearly established that Afghan nationals were directly involved in this attack. Evidence also indicates that the planning and oversight of the attack were conducted by leaders of the Khawarij based in Afghanistan.
The interim Afghan government will fulfill its responsibilities and will not allow its territory to be used for terrorist activities against Pakistan. Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary actions in response to threats emanating from across its borders, told ISPR
The statement from the ISPR also emphasized that, Pakistani security forces are committed to the complete eradication of terrorism. The sacrifices of our brave soldiers and innocent civilians further strengthen our unwavering resolve. We are prepared to pay any price to protect our homeland.
