Muzaffarabad: In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the 18th anniversary of the 2005 earthquake was observed today [Sunday] to express solidarity with victims.
Whopping 70000 people were died in the deadly tremors while 15 tehsils in Azad Jammu and Kashmir were wiped out from the map of the earth.
The day dawned with special prayers in mosques for high ranks of the martyr’s souls, the prosperity and development of Pakistan and the early liberation of the Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir.
Following the blowing siren, a one-minute silence was observed at all district headquarters at 08.52 am to pay respect to the martyrs.
A ceremony in a memory of martyred of the earthquake victims were held in the Muzaffarabad University ground.
Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq was laid floral wreath at the martyred monument. Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq said that there is a need of Rs 52 billion for reconstruction.
He said that today’s difficult decisions are cause of a better future.
Quran Khwani, prayer ceremonies, documentary shows depicting events of miseries, pictorial exhibitions, awareness walks, candle vigils, seminars and speech contests were held in all ten districts of the state.
