LAHORE: Newly elected Member Provincial Assembly on special seats took the oath, opposition protested.
The chaotic session of the Punjab Assembly began under the chairmanship of Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan. The opposition members protested on the swearing-in of the members on certain seats and raised noise by storming the speaker’s desk.
21 women and 3 minority members took oath on 24 reserved seats for women and minorities, members of the elected government coalition took oath.
Rana Aftab of Sunni Itehad Council declared the oath taking as illegal and said that the matter is in the court, these members cannot take oath until the decision is made.
Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan rejected the opposition’s demand and called the oath-taking in accordance with the constitution. Apart from this, the House passed the resolution declaring Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as martyr and national hero at the official level by majority. After completing the agenda, the meeting was adjourned indefinitely
