Karachi (May 30, 2017): K-Electric spokesperson on Wednesday said power supply to various parts of Karachi was affected for `few hours’ due to Extra High Tension (EHT) line tripping.
While talking to Abb Takk, K-Electric spokesperson Syed Fakhar Ahmed maintained that the EHT line tripped due to extra ordinarily levels of humidity in Karachi and its outskirts.

He further said that the high amount of moisture in the air coupled with low wind factor led to drop transmission capacity.
While denying the facts of continuous power outages in a major part of Metropolis, he said K-Electric was forced to manage the power shortfall through load management to ensure that the system remains intact due to reduced transmission capacity and to avoid any major or prolonged breakdown in Karachi.
K-Electric official was of the view that all strategic installations including key hospitals, airport, Dhabeji and Pipri pumping stations were provided with uninterrupted power supply.
In order to avoid any vulnerabilities in the infrastructure, the utility will be continuing with load management spells across the city over the next 2 to 3 days.
However he assured, relief will be provided to all residential customers during Sehr and Iftar, it was further stated.
Protests erupted in Karachi and other cities after a major power breakdown hit nearly 50 per cent of Sindh due to tripping of extra high-tension transmission (EHT) lines supplying electricity from Jamshoro and Bin Qasim Power Plant.
Angry Karachiites took to the streets and blocked roads in several areas as they faced difficulties due to persistent power failure in the holy month of Ramazan. 12th breakdown in a month has exposed all the tall claims of power utility.
