26th Constitutional amendment passed with PTI’s support: JUI Chief

D.I.KHAN: The head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has stated that the 26th Constitutional Amendment was passed with the support of PTI.

While speaking to the media in Dera Ismail Khan, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that for the past two decades, peace has been lost in tribal areas, and now even settled areas are facing insecurity. He added that since 2010, he has observed that operations are not a solution. The Chief Minister does not understand that some matters are under the state’s control, and the tribal elders have complaints against the state.

He said that a jirga (tribal council) would be convened soon to engage in discussions with government institutions. He further stated that he has dedicated all his energy to the tribal people, and the decision to merge the tribal areas was wrong, which has been his stance from day one. Nine years have passed, and the tribes have not received their due rights. He emphasized that it is the state’s responsibility to restore law and order, and the government should clarify its agenda regarding peace. The use of force is not a solution; it has only increased terrorism, and our province is being pushed towards instability.

Regarding PTI’s challenge to the 26th Constitutional Amendment in the Supreme Court, he stated that no one can stop anyone from approaching the court regarding the amendment. He reiterated that the 26th Constitutional Amendment was passed with PTI’s confidence, and he had advised PTI not to vote for the amendment.
When asked about negotiations between the government and PTI, Maulana Fazlur Rehman laughed and said, “When did negotiations between the government and PTI even start?”
It is worth noting that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the 26th Constitutional Amendment in the Supreme Court.
