Cairo(October 16, 2017): In Egypt, twenty-four militants have been killed in retaliatory firing by government troops, in a series of assaults on security posts in northern Sinai. While at least six government soldiers were also killed.
The statement did not give details, but security and medical sources said about 20 members of the security forces had also been injured when more than 100 militants repeatedly attacked security outposts south of the border town of Sheikh Zuweid.
According to security officials, dozens of militants used heavy machine guns and mortars to carry out a series of near-simultaneous attacks at Sheikh Zweid town and its surroundings.
Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
