Lebanese Ex-Premier Hariri Expects to Arrive France Tomorrow

Paris(November 17, 2017): Lebanon’s ex-prime minister Saad Hariri is arriving in France on Saturday and will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, the Elysee Palace announced. Hariri resigned unexpectedly on November 4.

Macron invited the outgoing Lebanese premier and his family to France on Wednesday, hoping to soothe the crisis triggered when Hariri announced his resignation from the Saudi capital Riyadh.

Macron later clarified that the invitation was not an offer of political exile, but merely an invitation made in “friendship” for Hariri to spend “a few days with his family” in France.

The Elysee Palace said the invitation was made after Macron spoke by telephone with both Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Hariri.

Hariri unexpectedly announced his resignation less than two weeks ago, citing Iran’s grip on the country and alluding to threats to his life.
