3rd anti-polio campaign of year begins across country

Islamabad: Anti-polio campaign of varied duration will begin across the country today.

During the campaign, 45.4 million children under age of five years will be administered anti-polio vaccine drops.

A city-wide anti-polio campaign has been launched in Lahore with the goal of administering polio drops to more than 2.2 million children under the age of five.

The campaign is being carried out under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza, as part of efforts to fulfill Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of a polio-free Punjab.

As part of the campaign’s monitoring efforts, DC Musa Raza visited the Karim Block area of Iqbal Town, where he reviewed the field activities of polio teams. He personally inspected tally sheets, door markings, and vaccination records to ensure transparency and efficiency.

Assistant Commissioner of Allama Iqbal Town Khawaja Muhammad Umair Mahmood accompanied the deputy commissioner during the visit.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC emphasized the importance of the campaign and issued clear instructions to field staff to ensure its success.

He also urged citizens to fully cooperate with polio teams visiting their homes. “No child should be left behind in this campaign. The active participation of the public is essential for the complete eradication of this disease,” he added.

The DC praised the dedication of polio workers and encouraged them to continue their efforts with the same passion and commitment. “Your hard work is the foundation of our success in making Lahore a polio-free city,” he said.

On the other hand, a five-day anti-polio campaign was launched in all districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar.

 According to the KP health department spokesperson, during this five-day campaign, nearly 7.3 million children under the age of five across the province will be administered polio drops.

Polio is a dangerous disease that can leave children permanently disabled, causing lifelong difficulties for both the affected children and their families.

Moreover, the presence of the virus in the area continues to pose a constant threat to other children. Therefore, it is extremely important to vaccinate all children against polio during the campaign, which is the primary goal of the initiative.

The Emergency Operations Center Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has finalized all arrangements for the campaign. A total of 35,465 trained polio workers have been organized into teams, including 32,155 mobile teams, 1,918 fixed teams, 1,225 transit teams, and 167 roaming teams.

In addition, 8,351 area in-charges have been appointed for effective supervision of these teams. Security arrangements have also been made across the province to support the polio teams during the campaign.

Deputy Commissioner, Muhammad Arslan Saleem here on Monday inaugurated anti-polio campaign by administrating polio drops to a child in Naushahro Feroze.

District Health Officer (DHO) , Ghulam Qadir Chandio, Additional Deputy Commissioner (II), Ali Shan Malik and officials of  other concerned departments were present on occasion.

The deputy commissioner directed the health teams to utilize all available resources to achieved the set targets for the drive.

He urged the parents to cooperate with health teams to immunize anti-polio vaccine to their children up to five years and save them from permanent disability.

Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq inaugurated the campaign in Islamabad yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion, she said eradication of polio is our national duty and commitment.
