6-year-old boy dies after falling into open sewer in city

KARACHI: A 6-year-old boy died after falling into an open sewer in the Shah Faisal Colony area of Karachi. According to rescue authorities, the incident occurred in Shah Faisal Colony No. 2.

Due to the fast flow of water in the sewer, the body was carried away and ended up under the Korangi Bridge. Police confirmed that the child’s body was found approximately 2 kilometers away from the scene.

The ambulance service crew struggled for 2 hours to retrieve the body from the sewer. The crew entered the sewer without safety gear, such as safety kits or oxygen masks.

The child, identified as Ibad Mahmood, had come to Shah Faisal Colony to attend his uncle’s wedding. After stepping outside, he tragically fell into the open sewer.

According to rescue authorities, 19 children have died after falling into sewers and drains in Karachi in 2024.
