Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked the ministry of finance to provide a whopping sum of Rs 15 billion for holding of elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Ministry of finance has already provided Rs five billion while the ECP has demanded immediate provision of Rs 10 billion.
Earlier, an important meeting at the ECP was held attended by special secretary interior and secretary finance Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh.
Special secretary interior briefed the meeting about security situation of the country while special secretary finance Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh briefed the huddle about finance.
The ECP directed to ensure provision of security and funds for holding of elections in Punjab and KP. However, secretary finance once gain apprised about financial constraints, to which, the ECP said that the electoral body be informed through writing.
In a informal conversation secretary finance said that the ministry never refused about the funds adding that we are bound to follow the constitution and law and apprised about its point of view to the ECP.
