New Petition Filed Against Proposed Constitutional Amendments in Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: A fresh petition has been submitted to the Supreme Court, challenging the proposed constitutional amendments put forth by the federal government. The petition, filed by Advocate Saim Chaudhry, names several respondents, including the government, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the Chairman of the Senate.

In the petition, Chaudhry contends that the federal government lacks the authority to enact amendments that contradict the Constitution. He argues that the proposed changes concerning the judiciary could jeopardize its independence and integrity.

The petition asserts that these amendments violate fundamental rights and aim to curtail the powers of both the Supreme Court and the High Court. Chaudhry calls for the proposed amendments to be declared unconstitutional and nullified.

Furthermore, the petitioner emphasizes the importance of thorough scrutiny for any amendments related to the judiciary, advocating that such proposals should be subject to review by all relevant stakeholders.
