In Karachi, over 50 activists and leaders from the Sindh Rawadari March, along with civil society and religious groups, were detained for protesting in violation of Section 144 in the Clifton Teen Talwar area and near the Karachi Press Club.
According to Abbtakk News, the Sindh Rawadari March, supported by civil society and religious organizations, organized a rally from Teen Talwar to the Karachi Press Club despite the imposition of Section 144.
In anticipation of the protest, police deployed heavy security forces at key locations, including Teen Talwar and Fountain Chowk. Female officers were also assigned to manage potential disturbances. Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odhu visited the area to evaluate the security measures in place.
During a media briefing, Additional IG Karachi stated that various groups had called for a protest at Teen Talwar and emphasized that violations of Section 144 would not be tolerated. He confirmed that more than 2,200 personnel and over 100 police vehicles were stationed in the Z Zone, warning that violators would be arrested and face legal consequences. The Additional IG noted that, with an international event (the SCO summit) scheduled in Islamabad, authorities wanted to avoid any disruptions in Karachi. He suggested that those wishing to protest could do so after October 17 and indicated that rally organizers had been informed.
While some participants from the Sindh Rawadari March reached the Karachi Press Club, they held a sit-in outside and began chanting slogans.
In response, police raided the protest site, detaining many participants and transporting them to various police stations. Reports indicate that over 35 activists were arrested at Teen Talwar and around 20 more at the Karachi Press Club.
As a result of the protest rally, police presence has been heightened on major routes, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, MA Jinnah Road, Mauripur Road, and at the Korangi Industrial Area and City Toll Plazas.
