ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution commending the successful hosting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
The resolution was introduced by Minister for Information and Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture, Attaullah Tarar. It extends heartfelt congratulations to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the government, and the people of Pakistan for their collective efforts in successfully organizing the 23rd Council of Heads of Government of the SCO.
The assembly paid tribute to key figures including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and former Speakers like Asad Qaiser for their pivotal roles in fostering regional cooperation.
The resolution recognized the government’s unwavering commitment to advancing the goals and objectives of the SCO, highlighting that this summit marked the first major international event hosted by Pakistan in 27 years a significant milestone in the nation’s diplomatic history. It emphasized that the successful hosting of the SCO summit not only represents a diplomatic victory for Pakistan but also enhances the country’s positive global image, paving the way for strengthened regional trade, peace, and stability.
The assembly acknowledged the vital role of the SCO in addressing pressing political, economic, defense, and security challenges in the region. It affirmed that Pakistan’s strategic importance and proactive participation at the SCO conference reflect the sentiments of the Pakistani people on key regional and security matters.
Furthermore, the House expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Government of Pakistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Interior, and law enforcement agencies—including the police, Rangers, and the Pakistan Army in ensuring the summit’s success.
It commended the contributions of all governmental institutions for beautifying the federal capital and warmly welcoming distinguished guests, thereby enhancing Pakistan’s stature during the summit.
The resolution concluded with heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the entire nation to all officials and institutions involved, recognizing their exemplary service from the arrival of distinguished guests to their departure.
