Internet and Mobile Connectivity Restored in Kurram After long Outage

KURRAM: Following significant improvements in the security situation, internet and mobile phone services have been restored in District Kurram after an extended disruption. This development comes after several months of communication blackouts in the tribal region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

While services have been reinstated, major transportation routes, including the Peshawar-Parachinar road, remain blocked. This closure has led to critical shortages of food, fuel, and medical supplies in the region.

Deputy Commissioner of Kurram, Javed Ullah Mehsud, reassured that local authorities are working diligently to resolve the challenges caused by the roadblocks.

At the same time, a peace jirga has been negotiating with tribal elders for the fourth consecutive day to ensure stability in the area. The ongoing conflict has claimed over 130 lives since November 21, when violence erupted after ambushes on two convoys traveling under police protection, resulting in 52 fatalities. The violence has since intensified, with law enforcement struggling to restore peace.

Residents have expressed frustration over the shortage of essential commodities, aggravated by the closure of the Parachinar-Peshawar highway due to ongoing skirmishes.

On December 3, the district administration reported progress in restoring law and order, citing a ceasefire agreement. However, concerns persist as the All Parties Conference (APC) has voiced alarm over the worsening security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, calling it “dangerous.”
