FBR imposes sewn up ban over bringing commercial quantities of goods.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued a new notification imposing a complete ban on bringing commercial quantities of goods from abroad, allowing only one mobile phone for personal use.

As per notification issued on Monday, individuals are now only permitted to bring one mobile phone for personal use from abroad. Any items valued over $1,200 will be classified as commercial trade and cannot be cleared, even with the payment of duties, taxes, and fines. Any additional mobile phones brought from abroad will be confiscated by the FBR.

A draft of proposed amendments to the Baggage Rules 2006 has also been released, allowing stakeholders to submit their suggestions within seven days. Feedback submitted after this period will not be considered.

These changes signify a tougher stance by the FBR to curb commercial imports disguised as personal baggage, affecting travelers returning from abroad.
