KARACHI: Pakistan’s famous Urdu poet Jaun Elia’s birth anniversary being observed today across the country.
Syed Hussain Sibt-e-Asghar Naqvi, Jaun Elia was born in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh in 1931 and later migrated to Pakistan in 1957 and settled in Karachi.
Alongside versification, he played many roles such as philosopher, biographer, and scholar to build strength in society with his pen.
His famous poetry collections include Shayed, Ya’ni, Gumaan, Lekan, Ramooz and Goya.
Jaun Elia’s first poetic collection Shayad (Perhaps) came to the surface in 1990 when the major part of his life had passed. Despite the delay in the publication of the collection, he became very popular and famous in the mushairas held at home and abroad.Jaun’s poetry is still alive in the modern world and keeps the young generation intact to Urdu literature.
