LAHORE: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan has approved the appointment of nine additional judges for the Lahore High Court (LHC) following a majority vote in a meeting chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.
According to the official announcement, the commission reviewed multiple candidates and finalised the names of nine judges for appointment. However, no candidate could secure the required votes for the 10th position. The commission clarified that the names of those who did not get the required votes would be reconsidered in the future.
Approved judges
The following nine names have been approved for appointment as additional judges in the Lahore High Court:
- Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom
- Malik Waqar Haider Awan
- Sardar Akbar Ali
- Malik Javed Iqbal Vance
- Syed Ahsan Raza Kazmi
- Muhammad Jawad Zafar
- Khalid Ishaq
- Malik Muhammad Owais Khalid
- Chaudhry Sultan Mahmood
The Judicial Commission emphasized that candidates who were not approved in this session may still have the opportunity to be reconsidered in future deliberations.
