LAHORE: High Court has issued notices to the federal government and other authorities in response to a petition against the amendment of the PECA Act, seeking their replies.
Justice Farooq Haider of the Lahore High Court heard a petition filed by a journalist organization.
The petition stated that the PECA bill was introduced without consulting the relevant stakeholders and journalist organizations.
It argued that the approval of the PECA amendment bill would severely impact the freedom of expression granted by the Constitution.
The petition asserts that the PECA Amendment Act is in conflict with the protection of freedom of expression granted by the Constitution.
The petition requests that the PECA Amendment Act be declared null and void, and that any actions taken under the PECA Amendment Act be conditional upon the final decision of the petition.
