US applauds Pakistan for arresting Sharifullah

WASHINGTON: On Thursday, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce attributed the successful arrest of an Afghan terrorist, linked to the Abbey Gate bombing in 2021 and wanted by the US, solely to Pakistan.

During the press briefing, the spokesperson highlighted President Trump’s recent address to Congress. In his speech, the President announced the arrest of ISK operative and planner Mohammad Sharifullah, who is implicated in the tragic deaths of 13 US service members and over 160 Afghan civilians at Abbey Gate.

Tammy Bruce announced that Sharifullah is currently in U.S. custody and expressed appreciation for the support from the government of Pakistan. “We thank them for their collaboration in ensuring that Mohd Sharifullah faces justice,” she stated. Bruce emphasized the significance of U.S.-Pakistan relations, remarking, “We share a mutual interest in combatting terrorism. The capture of this individual highlights the continued importance of our cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.”
