KARACHI: Malaria rises in Sindh, over six thousand cases reported by March.
As of March 13, the health department of Sindh has confirmed a concerning rise in malaria cases across the province, with a total of 6,057 cases reported since January.
This alarming trend highlights the urgent need for public health interventions in the region.
Karachi, the provincial capital, has reported 124 malaria cases during the same period. District South has been the hardest hit, accounting for 44 of these cases. District East follows closely with 41, while District West has reported 19 cases.
Other districts, including Korangi with 14 cases, East with 4, and Central with 2, contribute to the city’s malaria burden.
Malaria is particularly prevalent in the Hyderabad Division, with a staggering 2,577 cases reported.
The disease’s reach extends beyond Karachi, with the Sukkur Division documenting 548 cases, Larkana Division 1,456 cases, Mirpur Khas 685 cases, and Shaheed Benazirabad Division 667 cases.
Health officials are urging residents to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of malaria and are ramping up awareness campaigns about the symptoms and prevention strategies.
