RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, asserted on Tuesday that her brother’s life is in danger and announced plans to take the matter to the Supreme Court.
Speaking to the media, Aleema Khan expressed grave concerns over Imran Khan’s detention, stating, “Our brother and nephew are being held in unlawful custody.” She emphasized that their primary focus is on securing the release of what she described as innocent prisoners.
Aleema alleged that Imran Khan is being kept in solitary confinement without access to newspapers or television. “His access to media has been cut off, and he has been placed in solitary confinement,” she claimed, accusing prison authorities of violating basic human rights. “The jail superintendent is lying; my brother does not lie,” she added firmly.
She further accused the authorities of targeting Bushra Bibi, alleging that efforts are underway to exert pressure on Imran Khan through her. “There are attempts to break Imran Khan by taking action against Bushra Bibi,” Aleema stated, also implicating Punjab’s Chief Minister in orchestrating such campaigns. “Maryam Nawaz has sent this superintendent to inflict injustice on my brother,” she alleged.
Recalling her brother’s message, Aleema shared, “Imran Khan has stated he will hold talks for the sake of the nation, not for personal gain.” She highlighted that Khan has sent a strong message, urging unity and movement against injustice.“The situation is dire; the PTI must speak up,” Aleema urged. She called on the public to take action: “We are all victims of inflation. Now, the people must rise and stand against this oppressive system.”
Imran Khan has been in custody since August 2023, after being charged in multiple cases ranging from corruption to terrorism, following his removal from power in April 2022 via a no-confidence motion. After her meeting with her brother on Tuesday, Aleema conveyed Imran’s concerns: “My access to TV and newspapers has been cut off, and human rights are being violated,” she quoted him as saying.
She also shared that Khan had sent a message to parliamentarians, urging them to decide their political future and consider future negotiations. “Just listen to the founder’s cases, and the matter will be resolved,” Aleema emphasized.
