ISLAMABAD: The federal government has imposed a Rs238 per mmbtu levy on captive power plants.The levy has been imposed under the Off The Grid Captive Power Plants Levy Act 2025.
According to sources, the federal government plans to cut the power tariff through the captive power plants levy.In the first phase, an estimated 90 paisa per unit cut in power tariff can be announced after imposition of the captive power plants levy.
federal government has planned to increase the levy on captive power plants up to 20 percent in phases. The money collected through this levy will be used to provide relief to all types of power consumers. The federal government had increased the tariff for the captive power plants on February 1, 2025.
The gas tariff for the captive power plants was increased from Rs3,000 to Rs3,500.
After an increase in the tariff for the captive power plants, the government initiated the process to increase the captive power plants levy.
