RAWALPINDI: In a significant diplomatic gesture, Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, awarded Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the esteemed Patriotic War Medal. The presentation took place on Wednesday at the General Headquarters (GHQ), symbolizing the strong military bond between the two nations.
The medal, conferred on behalf of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, recognized Field Marshal Munir’s outstanding efforts in fostering bilateral military cooperation. During the ceremony, both military leaders engaged in discussions on regional and global security challenges, emphasizing the importance of collaboration.
Expressing his commitment to the partnership, the COAS reaffirmed Pakistan’s enduring fraternal ties with Azerbaijan and expressed optimism about further enhancing bilateral relations. He also extended his congratulations to Azerbaijan on the successful peace agreement with Armenia, highlighting the importance of regional stability.
Colonel General Valiyev lauded the professionalism and accomplishments of the Pakistan Armed Forces, citing their role in operations such as Maarka-e-Haq and Bunyanum Marsoos. He also conveyed best wishes for Pakistan’s upcoming Independence Day and Victory celebrations.
In turn, Field Marshal Munir appreciated Azerbaijan’s support during key military operations and thanked the Azerbaijani delegation for participating in the Independence Day festivities. Both sides reaffirmed their shared dedication to deepening defense collaboration and promoting regional peace and security.
Earlier, upon arrival at GHQ, Colonel General Valiyev was accorded a guard of honour and laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada, reaffirming the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
