Punjab Government Challenges PTI Leaders’ Bail Verdict in Lahore High Court

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to contest the bail granted to PTI leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Sarfaraz Cheema by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in the Lahore High Court (LHC).

The two PTI leaders were granted bail in connection with the attack on Shadman police station on May 9. Subsequently, the Punjab government has filed a petition through the Prosecutor General of Punjab to the Lahore High Court.

In its plea, the Punjab government has requested the LHC to declare the ATC’s decision to grant bail to Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Omer Sarfaraz Cheema as null and void. The government contends that both leaders, along with 768 PTI workers and supporters, were involved in the incident at Shadman police station.

The police had registered charges against the accused, citing offenses such as assault, vandalism, and other related crimes. The ATC had approved bail for Shah Mehmood Qureshi on June 21, 2025.
