Faisalabad: An anti-terrorism court of Faisalabad on Monday awarded 10 years jail to 59 leaders and workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) while set free 34 in a verdict in a case pertaining to attack on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and existing advisor to PM Rana Sanaullah on May 9, 2023.
The court also has given punishment of three year jail to 16 accused.
The ATC Faisalabad has given a clean chit to Fawad Chaudhry and Zain Qureshi in the case.
The court has slapped sentences to as many as 75 accused while all the accused were given punishments in their absence.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders who were awarded convictions in the case included Omar Ayub, Shibili Faraz, Zartaj Gull, Sheikh Rashid Shafique, Raye Murtaza Iqbal and Kunwal Shozub and others.
On the other hand, Ismaeel Sela, Ansur Iqbal, Bilal Aijaz, Ashraf Sohna, Mehar Javed and Shakeel Niyazi were also awarded 10 year imprisonment.
It is pertinent to mention here that total four cases of torching and vandalism were lodged against May 9 incident in Faisalabad while three cases verdict had announced earlier.
The fourth case was registered in Samanabad police station on allegations of attacking, vandaliing Rana Sanaullah house in which 109 people were nominated including the central leadership of the PTI.
