ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has commendably recognized the efforts of three local shepherds from Gilgit Baltistan who played a crucial role in saving hundreds of residents from a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF).
In an official visit to Islamabad today, the Prime Minister personally met with Wasyiat Khan, Insaar, and Muhammad Khan, and awarded each of them a cheque for 2.5 million rupees, as a token of appreciation from the Government of Pakistan for their courageous humanitarian actions.
Addressing the gathering, Shehbaz described these shepherds as true heroes of Gilgit Baltistan and expressed pride in their bravery. He highlighted that their quick response and sense of responsibility during the natural crisis facilitated the evacuation of many people, preventing a potential disaster.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that the Ministry of Climate Change is developing an advanced early warning system in Gilgit Baltistan, aimed at providing timely alerts to avert future emergencies and save lives.
The shepherds expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister for acknowledging their efforts, stating that they are thankful to Allah for enabling them to protect innocent lives through their swift action.
