CM Maryam Nawaz commends swift flood evacuation, Relief Operations

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif praised the prompt evacuation and rescue efforts that prevented a larger disaster as severe flooding caused widespread destruction. 

She emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and instructed the administration and relevant agencies to stay fully prepared given the ongoing flood crisis. The CM directed Rescue 1122 to intensify relief activities and ensure the availability of essential medicines at health camps established in flood-affected regions. 

Additionally, she called for arrangements to address waterborne diseases and emphasized the need to supply sanitary kits for women residing in relief camps. The Chief Minister also ordered the rapid deployment of Mobile Clinics, Field Hospitals, and Mother and Child Care Units, along with improvements to existing medical relief camps in the impacted areas. 

Furthermore, she instructed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to urgently supply tents and other essential items to districts as needed, and to develop comprehensive contingency plans for potential future emergencies. 

Maryam Nawaz highlighted that early evacuation efforts saved approximately 250,000 people, and over 900,000 individuals stranded in floodwaters were rescued swiftly. The coordinated response of officials and organizations successfully averted a major catastrophe.
